The things we love about Asheville are the wonderful variety of things to do and places to go.  Within a hour we can be at the top of a mountain or at one of the best breweries in the country.
We love to eat at Wicked Weed Brewery and in West Asheville.  We also like Apollo Flame which is just a hop, skip and a jump away.

We like to shop downtown, on Tunnel Road and in Biltmore Park.  Our home is located so we are less than ten minutes to two Barnes and Nobles stores, Lowe's Hardware, Home Depot, five grocery stores (including Amazing Savings), two Wal-Marts and Target, so we have a variety of places to shop!

When we bought the property we were drawn to the location, the lot size and the master bedroom.  The Asheville area is wonderful because of its continually growing beer scene and dog friendly atmosphere.

A few other things I would like to mention is that we are very close to a 5-Star Child Care Center and centrally located in town.  We can be almost anywhere in Asheville in less than 10 minutes!

We love to visit Carrier Park and take our dog to the Amboy Dog Park.  A lot of our friends live in West Asheville so we like the close proximity to West Asheville.  Also, we are located so close to I-40 we can get anywhere easily.

Of course we all like different things, but we enjoy eating out with friends and spending time walking our dog.  We love that the home is located so close to such a variety of restaurants, both chain and local.  We also love that we can be at Montreat or Pisgah Brewing in 15 minutes or choose a movie at the last minute, because it won't take too long to get there!

Our neighborhood is very dog friendly and walkable.  Because the neighborhood is kind of hidden there is not a lot of traffic, so many of our neighbors walk their dogs and children play hop-scotch in the street.

Our utility costs are lower than others.  We have a central heat pump and electricity with Progress Energy and find the shadiness of our area helps keep our home cool in the summer and the large windows let light in in the winter.  We have City of Asheville water and sewer and find those costs very reasonable too!

What we love about the Bethel area is that it is a close-knit community with the best elementary and middle school around.  The schools are small with a real emphasis on community involvement.

Our children look back on their time here with wonderful memories of the schools and the community.  We love to eat at Juke Box Junction soda shop and El Pobre Mexican Restaurant, which are both just down the road from our house, and we enjoy a myriad of restaurants in the Waynesville area.

Grocery stores are numerous.  I shop at Ingles Markets, but there are many more to choose from with a wonderful farmers market just down the road during the Spring/Summer.

When we purchased our home we were immediately drawn to the serene setting with the sound of the creek.  There was absolutely no noise that we could hear from the porch as we stood and gazed at the beautiful trees, mountain laurel and wild blackberry bushes that grew right in the yard.  We also loved the fact that the road we lived on led to the Blue Ridge Parkway and many hiking trails along the way.

When we moved in we  were soon greeted by some of the best neighbors we have ever lived around.  We also loved the privacy that this mountain development provided, and our children have added that this was the best place for a kid to grow up.  They had so much to explore and their own club house, too.

The Asheville area provides limitless possibilities for entertainment, fine dining and captivating mountain views.  The road that leads to our home connects to the Blue Ridge Parkway which is one of the largest tourist attractions in the state of North Carolina.
I've already mentioned the fact that the Blue Ridge Parkway is just 30 minutes from our home, but another thing we love about the parkway is the annual blueberry picking days of September.  We usually travel with some friends and spend an afternoon picking blueberries and cranberries.  Many scenic waterfalls are along the path so we have enjoyed immensely the hiking, abundant produce, and swimming that living near the parkway has afforded our family.

We have loved meeting our neighbors through the years here in our little Mountain Chalet community.  Each one is from a different area of the country, and for most of them this is their vacation or Summer home.  We have also enjoyed the fact that Cataloochee ski resort is only 30 minutes from our home.  So, really we have the best of all seasons here.  Swimming, hiking, scenic trails, skiing, and a serene home to come to when we are done.

We enjoy the history, the performing arts available, and the small-town atmosphere along with all the outdoor sports.  We have tubed down the river, skied the slopes, hiked the trails, and biked up to Sunburst Recreation Area.  There is absolutely nothing that we did not enjoy about living here.  It has something for everyone.

Our neighborhood is great for friendly people, 4th of July celebrations that include the whole mountain, and the peace and quiet you only find in serene mountain settings.  It is also great because we are one of only three year-round residents.
Our electric bills were lowered quite a bit when we decided to burn wood in the main room upstairs.  We also really like the baseboard heat because it allows us to only heat the rooms we want heated.  When we first moved into this house we still had five children at home.  We are now down to only one most of the year while the others are at college.  We have two spare bedrooms that we do not heat.  Even with the house being totally electric our average electric bill is around $175.  We also offset the heating costs with gas logs.  The temperature up here has never exceeded 82 degrees outside and about 75 inside, so we have had no need of air conditioning.

The things I love about the Asheville/Swannanoa area are numerous! My home is close to downtown Asheville, yet has the country atmosphere of rolling hills, valleys, and breathtaking mountain views. So many walking trails, with Warren Wilson College next door.. hiking, biking, relaxing. Owen Park is on the other side of my community, with level walking trails, pond and picnic areas.

We love to eat in Black Mountain, only 10 minutes away. Two great pizza places, great brunch at Morning Glory, new restaurants to try, and toward Asheville is a great, new Latino eatery. Pomodoro's is a fabulous Italian eatery as well.

Grocery stores are plentiful and close by, with Ingles Grocery 5 minutes away... a very large, excellent, reasonable southeastern chain.  Asheville Mall is just 10-15 min. away.. a great place to shop and to walk in the winter. My favorites are the upscale consignment shops in the area. Another plus-- Trader Joe's is coming!

When I bought the property I was drawn to the combination of easy access to Asheville and surrounding areas, but also having the luxury of the country feel, with walking trails, valleys, mountains so close and feeling the beauty of the mountains.  In my opinion, this townhome would be perfect for any single person who wanted maintenance-free living, or a perfect summer spot for a couple. Neighbors watch out for each other, too.

The Asheville area is wonderful because of the eclectic flavor. There is acadamia, free-spirited young and baby boomer ages, liberals and conservatives, great cultural flavor with the symphony, arts and so many gifted crafts people. Great outdoor advantages, great change of seasons, fantastic medical physicians and service. Very friendly and safe. Good cost of living. What more could you want?

A few other things I could mention is the health care resources are outstanding, from the trauma center of Mission Hospital, the Heart Center, to the Keever Hospice Center at Care Partners Health Services.

We love to explore the many outdoor activities, such as the Arboretum, Biltmore Estate, the Botanical Gardens, Bent Creek biking and hiking trails, and so much more.

A terrific hobby for seniors is the Center For Creative Retirement, on the campus of UNCA. Too much to write about...check it out for yourselves.

Our neighborhood is great for community caring, yet respecting each other's privacy. We have regular potlucks, pool gatherings, and as much or little social time as you want.

My utility costs were a pleasant surprise.. much lower than previous areas of the country I've lived in. Maybe it's the temperate climate here.

The thing we love most about Asheville is the combination of sophisticated cultural opportunities and activities available within a laid-back, casual and spectacularly beautiful setting. We frequently eat at Vinnie's Italian Restaurant, Avenue M bar and Bistro, Noi's Thai Kitchen, Luella's BBQ and Zen Sushi - all within walking distance.

The grocery stores within a mile from our house, including Ingles, Fresh Market and Whole Foods have not only the basics, but also plenty of organic and specialty foods. On top of that, there is a Harris Teeter currently being built within that same one mile range!

When we bought the property, we were thrilled about having such a private lot so close to town. The house is situated up above the street and the backyard is large, wooded and fenced. Our friends say it's like being on vacation, at a mountain resort on our patio.

We have always been proud to call ourselves Ashevillians. It's in the national spotlight for many things. We love that it's artistic and sophisticated without being stuffy or snobby. It's an outdoor enthusiast's paradise. It has great restaurants. And there is always something interesting going on.

There are several gems in Asheville worth mentioning: Of course the Biltmore House is a magnet for out of town guests, but there are lot's of other things to do including festivals of all kinds, fabulous art and craft galleries, historical sites, music and theater venues with national acts, antique malls and the downtown Friday night drum circle, not to mention the Smokey Mountain national Park.
Asheville also has a great healthcare system with Mission Hospital and other major medical practices.  Staying active has been easy in our neighborhood because we enjoy walking on Sunset Mountain just behind the house. We've found a 3.5 mile loop that offers spectacular views of the city and the Blue Ridge Mountains. Every season offers wonderful changes and in the 7 years we've lived here, we've never gotten tired of that walk. We go several times a week!

North Asheville is great because we have made a ton of friends here. We not only go to each others' homes, but also meet up at several of the restaurants within walking distance. We know most everyone on our street.  Our utility costs are reasonable partly because the summers are not as hot as some of the surrounding areas. But also because the heating, stove and fireplace are gas, those things have been especially cost effective.

The thing we love about the Oakley area is that it is close to a lot of restaurants, places to shop, and medical facilities but far enough away from the crowded areas of Asheville.

We love to eat at Cheddar's, Outback, Longhorn, and a nearby IHOP for a great breakfast.  Having a Wal-Mart and several grocery stores nearby provide a lot of convenience for us. It's also nice that a Kohl's and the Asheville Mall are just a few moments away.

When we bought the property we were drawn to the large fenced-in level yard.  It made it much easier for us to spend time outside with our family, friends, and most of all, our grandchildren.

The Asheville area is wonderful due to the climate. Normally it's not too hot or cold for an extended period of time and the autumn leaves are an added treat.

Another thing I can mention about Asheville are the top notch hospitals and VA facilities we have here. It's great not to have to drive hours away to get to a good medical facility.

We enjoy just riding around the area and looking at the beautiful scenery on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Our area is one of the most beautiful places on earth and we should all take time to enjoy it.

Of course we all like different things, but we especially enjoy visiting the Biltmore Estate as often as we can. We are season pass holders and the benefits offer us the ability to visit the estate all through the year.

Our neighborhood has great friendly neighbors and quiet streets. They make for a wonderful place to live.

Our utility costs are better here than in a lot of places. Our water and sewer runs about $59 a month and our power runs between $90-$105 per month depending on the time of year. The location of our house is close to Asheville but far enough away that we are still in the county and are not required to pay city taxes.

Asheville is beautiful, has great weather, and there are so many things to do in the area.  Carrabba's, Neo's, Papas & Beer, and The Local Joint are some of our favorite restaurants.  We shop at both the nearby Ingles and Food Lion.

The house is awesome and so easy to keep clean. The mountain views are something else that drew us to the property. We are in the country, but just minutes from town. The guest house was perfect for our mother-in-law, and then later a renter.

We love the area for the diversity and all the things to do. It's great that we're just minutes from town.  Hospitals and doctors are less than thirty minutes away. Schools are just minutes away.

We love driving to nearby Chimney Rock and Lake Lure for lunch and sightseeing. Sitting on our deck at sunset is a favorite pastime.  There is a nearby horse barn for horseback riding, and mountain biking is a big favorite of many. Tubing in the Rocky Broad River at Chimney Rock is another favorite, as is trout fishing.

The area where our home is located is surrounded by mountains and farms. It's peaceful and picturesque. In the spring and summer when the azaleas and rhododendrons are in full bloom, it is breathtaking. In the fall, we are treated to a magnificent view of orange, gold and red leaves. Even though we are in what feels like the country, we are only minutes from everything.

Our utility costs are less than at our last residence and the radiant heat floors feel so wonderful on our feet in the winter.
