The things I love about Hendersonville include the lovely downtown shopping area, the wide choice of places to eat (both casual and formal here and in Asheville), the convenience of excellent medical care, the wonderful Flat Rock Placehouse, and of course, the beauty of the mountains. My husband would want to add the many golf courses her and in the surrounding area.

We love to eat Mexican and there are so many to choose from. Our two favorites are Papa's and Beer on Asheville Highway, and Sol y Luna in the Laurel Park shopping center. When we want really FINE dining, we love the Grove Park Inn in Asheville (this is where we had our 50th anniversary dinner). There is a wonder pizza and sandwich shop just a mile or so from us in Etowah, as well as The Dutch Cupboard for comfort food.

When we bought our property, it was definitely for the view. We also talked to several people in the neighborhood and were impressed by their kindness and helpfulness. Before we built our house, it already seemed like home.

This area is wonderful because of the proximity to so many things to do, such as in Brevard, Lake Lure, Asheville, Greenville, SC, etc.
I love that so many folks in the neighborhood help with the upkeep in the open areas in our development. Just about everyone pitches in in some way.

My husband is a big (and I mean BIG) golfer, and since we moved here, he has always had a part-time job at a golf course, not for the pay - it's very small, but for the free golf. I am a musician and enjoy the benefits of living close to Brevard, where you can attend many low cost and/or free musical events. I also am a quilter and enjoy "my room" in our lower level, where I can do laundry, iron, watch TV, and sew - all at the same time. Then I can close the door to my mess, and go upstairs and no one sees my mess!

Our neighborhood has something for everyone. If you choose to take part, there are monthly ladies luncheons and monthly mens luncheons, community picnics, ice cream socials, Christmas parties every year, a ladies sewing group, a group that plays bridge, and many other opportunities to get to know yor neighbors and make new friends. However, if you tend to not care about things like this, no one will judge you or ask why you don't participate; they will still be there if you need them. No one is a busy body or into you business, they all just get along and are kind and helpful when it's needed.

We love that Fletcher is small and quaint and close to dining out, the movies, and shopping. We love that 12 bones and Tupelo Honey are close by. The grocery store is very close and there is even a local family owned italian eatery less than five minutes away for take out. When we bought the property we were drawn to how great the streets are for the kids riding bikes, there is a neighborhood park within walking distance, and our house has a spacious, private backyard.

The Fletcher area is great for being close to hikes, cycling, and parks. It doesn't take us long to get to Asheville or the interstate to leave town for the weekend.A few other things that I can mention is that the local public schools are great and close by. Bus stops are convenient or all the schools are within minutes away. There are also a couple of private schools nearby.

The local hospital, Park Ridge is only 10 minutes away and they are a phenomenal facility. We love that Fletcher park is minutes away, its fun for the family and pets. We also look forward each year to kicking off the holiday season with a great night of trick or treating in our neighborhood and then enjoy the Fletcher Christmas Parade in early December. Fletcher really is a great, small, and safe place to call home.I love taking the family on hikes in Dupont, Pisgah and a local trail, Bearwallow - only minutes away.

"When we consider the many things we love about Flat Rock and Hendersonville, the warm appeal of small town comfort with a cosmopolitan flair are foremost. While, as a 62 year old native (my spouse, a resident of 38 years), we have witnessed growth we’re steadfastly attracted to the people and natural beauty of the area. It’s the perfect place to raise a family as well as enjoy nature and a multitude of cultural activities.
For dining out, we enjoy small, local eateries such as Flat Rock Village Bakery or Mean Mr. Mustards for breakfast or brunch. Hubba Hubba Smokehouse in Little Rainbow Row is a local favorite and definitely one of ours for lunch. In the evening we wander downtown to Mezzaluna for Italian food, Umi for sushi, or The Square Root for local, American fare. Often we take a quick trip to Asheville or Greenville, SC where there are a plethora of dining choices – all less than one hour away.

Because we enjoy cooking, we’re always dashing to the market for that special ingredient. We’re within 2 miles of Fresh Market, Harris Teeter and Ingles. Seasonally we enjoy the nearby farmer’s markets; Flat Rock Tailgate Market is fantastic for fresh veggies and beautiful flowers as is Hendersonville Curb Market and the Saturday Tailgate Market downtown. Other incidentals are nearby at locally owned Whitley’s Drug Store or a larger chain such as Walgreens and CVS, both newly constructed. (And if you’re shopping at Fresh Market, you may want to sneak a peek in the brand new Stein Mart, just next door)!

Originally attracted to this specific location because of the phenomenal VIEW- while still so close to conveniences, we have come to appreciate the quiet, well established neighborhood. Our home is secluded, no traffic driving by. And we enjoy the quiet of the outdoors, whether on the patio, deck or relaxing in the hot tub, while overlooking the city, just minutes away. Flat Rock, one of the most prestigious areas in Henderson County, with its desirable climate and natural beauty was the choice by Charleston's elite for summer homes and indeed has been dubbed “Little Charleston of the Mountains.” Our home is nestled on the ridge of two premier neighborhoods, surrounded by estates and historic mansions. The charm of the quiet, historic village remains while lending itself to modern lifestyles.

Flat Rock / Hendersonville is a well known Mecca for retirees, the best kept secrets are the active lifestyles the area accommodates. Culturally rich, there’s always something to enjoy. Flat Rock Playhouse, a professional theater with year round productions has 2 venues – with the main stage less than 1 mile away. Hendersonville Symphony ranks among the best and performs at Blue Ridge Community College’s Thomas Auditorium, 2 miles from home. Galleries, art classes and local crafts are all within minutes of our door.

We’re only about 60 miles from the charming Cashiers/Highlands area (a darling of the Atlanta and South Florida folks). And if you’re in search of the big city lifestyle, with I-26 just a couple of miles away, we’re located less than 2 hours from Charlotte, NC, 45 minutes to Greenville, SC, and about 3 hours to Atlanta…all easy drives.

Hiking at Dupont State Forest and relaxing by the waterfalls has to be one of the most popular things to do and that’s about 10 minutes away on the short drive toward Brevard – yet another charming local town with adorable shops and restaurants. Dupont Forest is also a great place to explore by mountain bike and horseback. In the summer, Little Rainbow Row in Flat Rock offers a series of free music productions – big talent with small village charm. Just bring your lawn chair and a smile.

We’re movie buffs and Flat Rock Cinema is the perfect place to catch some of the newest releases in a bistro setting. A great spot for relaxing with a snack and a glass of wine while watching the films – and it’s less than 1 mile away. And speaking of wine, there are two fantastic vineyards on the outskirts of town. Picnic and stroll at beautiful Burntshirt Vineyards or visit the tasting room at St. Paul’s Vineyard. Coming soon, just a hop and skip away at nearby Mills River, is world renowned Sierra Nevada Brewery with craft beer, music venue, trails, and river walk park. Additionally, located in WNC are a number of summer camps that attract visitors from around the world.

Being fans of classic sports cars, we love to cruise on the beautiful back roads of Western North Carolina. A drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway, past waterfalls and rhododendron thickets is a treat anytime of the year. In the spring, when the laurels and rhododendron bloom pink and white, it’s delightful. And in the fall with the mountains painted in their autumn array, it’s breathtaking. It really is life in a natural paradise – roads and trails at our backdoor.

Our neighborhood is conveniently located, quiet and secluded, without being isolated. A safe and accessible area for outdoor exercise – walk or bike to town or to Connemara National Park, and you will almost always pass one or more of our friendly neighbors.
While nestled in a historic village, we’re only 3 miles from Interstate 26 and close to shopping and schools and restaurants. And being so close to town makes errands easy with everything we need available within light traffic, driving distance. Within a mile is the new Flat Rock Park which is perfect for walking the dog or taking a stroll or jog. Distantly, from the south side of our property, we can see Connemara – the Carl Sandburg National Park – a fantastically maintained farm where the poet and his family lived for years. Lovely, winding paths and hikes to a vista from Old Glassy Rock are favorites of visitors and locals.

"Seller Says"
The things I love about Hendersonville are numerous. It has a small town flavor and atmosphere yet offers all conveniences: Fast food, fine dining, banks, doctors, unique downtown shopping, big box stores shopping, and locally owned shopping. It is a beautiful town with tulips in the spring and hanging baskets in the summer into fall. Downtown is truly a unique experience. Easy access to other areas via I-26, Hwy. 64, and Hwy 25.

I like Harry's and Piggy's (locally owned and quite unique); Outback steakhouse; Binion's Roadhouse; Bay Breeze Seafood (outstanding); Fatz Cafe; Applebee's.
Grocery Stores are plentiful: Ingle's, Bi-Lo, Fresh Market. Wal-Mart, Sam's Club, Go Grocery Outlet, and Aldi's. I always find what I need. It is good to have the larger stores for shopping: Wal-Mart, Sam's Club, Lowe's Home Depot, T J Maxx, Big Lots, and Dollar Tree.

When I bought the property I was drawn to the setting. Spectacular views all around. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets, The apple orchards, front and back, bursting in bloom in the spring, and seeing the apples grow until harvest. I found what I was looking for in a quality home located in a peaceful, private setting. I liked the feeling of being in the countryside yea close enough to all conveniences and necessities.

Hendersonville is a beautiful area. When I go to town I enjoy the mountains all around as I make my stops and errand. I have found the people to be most friendly. Tourists are many and the area is always providing special events. The annual Apple Festival over Labor Day Weekend is fun for the whole family. Churches are plentiful and there is much offered through the Fine Arts. Live theatre productions and concerts are plentiful. Street dances downtown in the summer are fun as well. I really enjoy the Hendersonville area. There are so many offerings I can plug into. Everything I need is here and yet I have the conveniences of easy access to larger areas. I can go and come at my pace without all of the hustle and bustle, and traffic of the larger areas. I believe it is truly a good place to call "home".

I enjoy drives on the Blue Ridge Parkway, visits to Biltmore Estate, visits to Chimney Rock (15 minutes from my home), and going to Black Mountain, spending the day in their unusual downtown area. I enjoy drawing and painting and the area offers much as outlet for this hobby. I enjoy hiking trails with my son and his family.
My neighborhood is great because it offers such a peaceful setting. There is very little traffic on the road coming up the mountain. Appleola Rd. on which my home is located is a state road which is nice when we have snow. There is an element of privacy and serenity yet easily accessible to all conveniences. I-26 and Hendersonville are 10 miles away. The neighbors are friendly but most keep to themselves. I enjoy beautiful sunrises and sunsets, the apple trees in the spring and summer, an the setting of horses in the pasture across the road from my home.

I am serviced by Duke Energy for heating and cooling. I have a leased propane tank from Freeman Gas to supply my two gas log fireplaces. Since 2006, I have never had a problem with the septic tank, and I do once a year treatments. I am serviced by a private well and have had no problems. I have two water heaters one for each floor. My costs are probably lower than most. In the summer, I rarely use the air conditioner. We always have a breeze and I open the windows. When we have a cold winter my costs rise due to heating but They are a lot less than most. I love the benefit of two systems, one for each level.
