The things I love about the Lester area are that it is safe and quiet and just far enough out to see cows and sheep, but close enough to get into town quickly. The people are friendly and churches, schools, post office, and restaurants are all close by.

All are welcome at the Lester Grill for all meals family style, or to grab a quick sausage biscuit at Gossetts Grocery. Both are eat in or out. Gossetts is convenient as a quick stop.

Grocery stores including local Gossetts and Ingels are about 4 miles down the road, and are very convenient. Lester Supply can provide your hardware and yard needs at a competitive price without having to go all the way to Lowes. They have everything! In the Ingles grocery area there are many fast food places, gas stations, furniture stores, auto parts places, car washes, etc.

We were drawn to the Lester area because of its rural atmosphere and and friendly neighbors.

Lester area is wonderful because it a very safe place to raise a family and the local children you meet are very respectful and friendly.

Our house was built in 2007 and is energy efficient. It is electric with a heat pump, water pump and septic and a total cost of all uses being about $200/ month.

We enjoy being able to plant a garden in our yard that actually grows.

I enjoy golf for recreation and many courses are within 1/2 hour away.

Our neighborhood is great for its rural atmosphere with pristine mountains, large rolling farms and locals gathering in two local restaurants every morning. All are welcome to these groups and you may get to know many by name if you want.

There are many things we love about living in the Asheville area, especially having access to beautiful wilderness and the amenities of city life without having to ever go too far from home. We enjoy hiking in these beautiful mountains, exploring antique shops, attending craft shows, going to Drum Circle on Friday evenings, attending a variety of concerts at the US Cellular Center and Thomas Wolfe Auditorium, long drives on the Blue Ridge Parkway, spending time on the French Broad River, hiking portions of the Appalachian Trail, exploring all the interesting small towns in the surrounding area. We really like that everyone seems to have a place here no matter where they are from.

We enjoy eating out, and one of our favorite spots that is close to home is the Spring Creek CafĂ©, which is just 15 minutes away on the other side of Doggett Mountain. We also like Papa's Pizza on Leicester Highway, Sonic drive-in on Leicester Highway on Sunday evenings for a killer cheeseburger and a milkshake, Asian Wok Chinese restaurant on Leicester Highway for freshly cooked take-out or eat-in, La Carreta Mexican Restaurant on Merrimon Avenue in North Asheville, Chipotle in Asheville, Farmburger, Carraba's, Longhorne Steakhouse. We enjoy ice cream cones from Kilwin's in downtown Asheville.

Even though this home is not in town, it is only 20 minutes away from gas, groceries, and hardware. About five minutes further down Leicester highway, there is an Ingles Market

We were initially drawn to what we thought was a good view, but this is truly a very special place. The house faces east, so we are greeted most mornings by a beautiful sunrise. Some mornings we are above the clouds and the mountaintops across the valley rise above the clouds and look like islands in an ocean. We also see the moon rise in the evenings, and when it is full it creates quite a show. During stormy weather, we enjoy watching the storms roll across the valley. We like lying in the hammock at night and looking at the stars, which are truly spectacular because of the lack of lights near the house. We enjoy campfires in the fire pit out front and toasting marshmallows, and sometimes we hear coyotes howling while we are sitting by the fire. On a few summer evenings each year thousands of fireflies appear along the driveway and in part of the yard. They create so much light that they light up the trees along the driveway. We enjoy getting into the hot tub, especially on cool or even cold nights, and looking at the shimmering lights all across the valley. Every summer hummingbirds return to Doggett Mountain, and we enjoy sitting on the front porch watching them chase each other.

One of our favorite (and easy) hikes is along the Laurel River near Hot Springs.

We enjoy doing many things, but we particularly enjoy hiking, woodworking and making crafts, cutting firewood for the winter, sewing, knitting, painting, woodburning - anything creative. We have terrific neighbors here who are now dear, dear friends. When one has a problem, someone is always ready to help in any way, and they share in your joys as well as sorrows. This is a quiet and peaceful neighborhood where you can truly enjoy all that nature has to offer, including watching a large variety of birds and other wildlife, as well as many beautiful wildflowers. We haven't had any troubles with wildlife, but we have seen deer, bears, coyotes, chipmunks, groundhogs, bobcats, squirrels, wild turkeys and many different songbirds and woodpeckers. We particularly enjoy taking walks from the house around to the pretty waterfall at the far edge of the property. In the summer months it is a cool and shady spot, and after it rains, from the house you can hear the water rushing down the mountain.

Our utility costs are very reasonable because the house is very well insulated and has 2 x 6 construction. Electricity service is provided by French Broad EMC, and our average monthly bill is $130 - $150. French Broad EMC is just terrific, and the service is very dependable. We have had very few outages in the 13 years we have lived here, and they have always responded very quickly when there has been any problem. We have an underground 500-gallon liquid propane tank that is leased from Amerigas for less than $100 annually, but we haven't used much propane over the years. One of the heat pumps uses gas when it is very cold, and we have a gas range. We have heated the whole house with our Appalachian woodstove with less than two cords of wood (harvested from this property) per year for the entire time we have lived here. We have an electric water heater, but we also have a solar water heating system that provides most of our hot water and helps to heat the hot tub. The house is well situated to take advantage of heat from the sun in the wintertime.

Small town, country living minutes from fine dining, shopping and fantastic night life!

We love to eat breakfast at Miami Restaurant right here in Candler!! They make everything from scratch and it is just good ol' Authentic Southern Country Cooking with down home service that makes you feel like Grandmas House.

The brand new Ingles Supermarket is fantastic! Awesome deli, Starbucks, Gelato, Pizza and Local products including our own City Bakery Breads that are to die for! Candler Seed and Feed (we call Little Mayberry) we love to support our local family suppliers and what they don't have they can get for you with personal service and great advice on everything from gardening to farm animal's health and safety.

The serenity and complete solitude. The large pond and flowing creeks are peaceful bliss. Coming from out of state, we wanted a "Destination Home" where our family and friends from all around could come and stay for great visiting and R & R. Fishing, hiking, gardening and the Parkway literally in your back yard!

The Asheville area is absolutely wonderful! It is like a big melting pot of wonderful people from all over! They just come here for school or vacation and never want to leave! I love best the diversity
of the country life, mountain air with all the amenities of funky Downtown Asheville just minutes away. Major airports in less than 90 minutes away and our own local airport is fantastic too. Our family and guests love taking trips over to Nashville, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Asheville is an American Dream!

The combination of everything you could ever want is here in Asheville, just good, clean, affordable living and great great people! Most of all I think we enjoy the real FREEDOM to live exactly the way we want to.

We love the River District Art Walks every spring and fall and the Shin Dig on the Green all summer long! The restaurants are phenomenal! And shopping is fantastic downtown or at the new outlet mall or the Asheville mall. Endless resources for eating organic or vegetarian. The Medical system is state of the art. We LOVE Biltmore Estate and for an equestrian it is top notch nearly year round fun!!

Of course we like to take advantage of everything this spectacular location has to offer! Farmers Market, WNC Ag center for rodeos, awesome movie theaters that include full bar service (in the theater!) Hiking, Horse back riding, fishing and gardening, white water rafting in the French Broad with endless groups and resources to insure lots and lots of support. Many Many churches to choose from and fun and rewarding to get involved.
