"Seller Says"
The things that we love about Etowah are that it is a rural community equidistant from the larger towns of Brevard, Transylvania County and Hendersonville, Henderson County (10 miles west to east ). These towns offer many activities all year round, from music venues to outdoor hiking, camping and bicycling. The entrance to the Pisgah National Forest, Dupont State Forest, and Holmes Educational State Forest are all within 10 miles as well. The Blue Ridge Community College has campuses in both Brevard and Hendersonville offering life long learning courses as well as Associate degree courses. If you like to dine out, there are many eclectic restaurants within the area. Of course, the mountain views are everywhere you look, with the Blue Ridge Parkway only 30 minutes away.
There are many great restaurants in the area. Pizza, Mexican and BBQ located within 1/2 mile of the house. In Brevard we frequent Square Root and Big Mikes often. Hendersonville has more than 30 different restaurants on Main Street alone giving the diner any number of cuisines to choose from. All are very good and it is hard to decide where to go when we wish to dine away from home.

Grocery stores are available within the Brevard-Hendersonville path. The local option is Ingles with 1/2 mile of the home. Other stores available include Harris Teeter, Fresh Market, Aldi's and a planned Publics in Hendersonville. Brevard has a Food line, Food Matters Market and Ingles. Etowah also has a Dollar General in the small shopping center.
We selected the property to build our home because of the location. Immediately connecting to our lot is a large lot with small stream that is designated green space. This gives us an area that is open and will not be built upon. We have views and nature without a lot of upkeep and responsibility. This area gave us the opportunity to be in a quiet area but close to the larger towns. Asheville is within 20 miles and airport with 10.

We love this area because the scenery is amazing. If you have nothing to do, a peaceful walk or picnic in the forest is only minutes away. Etowah has a branch of the county library with many books, videos, etc available. We have found many volunteer opportunities available. These include working at the Pisgah
wildlife center and fish hatchery, Receptionist duties at the Hendersonville visitors center, docent at the Heritage Museum, trail guide at the arboretum . We have also extended our hobbies and interests at the opportunity house, Hendersonville, by joining clubs and taking art classes such as stained glass.

If you like bigger city events, Asheville is 20 miles away. There you can visit the Biltmore Estate, see shows and events at the Diane Wortham theatre. Enjoy music venues, minor league baseball, and a great night life. The NC arboretum is a great place for walking through gardens and seeing special events such as the bonsai exhibit or monarch butterfly weekend. You get to live in a place that people want to visit because of the mountains, great weather with 4 seasons.
The area also has cultural events available. The NC theatre"FlatRock Playhouse has live plays throughout the year as well as a downtown venue featuring music. Hendersonville has a community Band, Community Choral, professional symphony and there are performances throughout the year. Brevard music center offers wonderful events throughout the summer and concerts and programs are available often at Brevard College. All within 15 miles of the house. Blue ridge college offers lectures, life long learning courses as well as Associate degree courses.
Since moving to the area, I have taken classes in stained glass design and started a new passion. We have also learned to play mah Jong and joined a weekly group to play. Working at the local school as a volunteer assistant, outdoor activities and other volunteering ventures fill up our free time.
The Springfield Meadow neighborhood is just off Rt 64, but isolated from traffic noise. The community itself has about 20 homes. Neighbors are very friendly with a combination of families with children and retired couples. There is a loosely connected Home Owners Association that manages the development roads and street lighting.
Duke energy (electricity) and PSNC (natural gas) make up the bulk of our utility costs. These cost vary according to season but seem reasonable. Our water and sewer costs is through Hendersonville. Garbage removal is through local private vendors (many to choose from) that service the area once per week. The county does have a recycle center for the resident's use also.
