Seller says about their home:

The thing we love most about Asheville is the combination of sophisticated cultural opportunities and activities available within a laid-back, casual and spectacularly beautiful setting. We frequently eat at Vinnie's Italian Restaurant, Avenue M bar and Bistro, Noi's Thai Kitchen, Luella's BBQ and Zen Sushi - all within walking distance.

The grocery stores within a mile from our house, including Ingles, Fresh Market and Whole Foods have not only the basics, but also plenty of organic and specialty foods. On top of that, there is a Harris Teeter currently being built within that same one mile range! When we bought the property, we were thrilled about having such a private lot so close to town. The house is situated up above the street and the backyard is large, wooded and fenced. Our friends say it's like being on vacation, at a mountain resort on our patio.
We have always been proud to call ourselves Ashevillians. It's in the national spotlight for many things. We love that it's artistic and sophisticated without being stuffy or snobby. It's an outdoor enthusiast's paradise. It has great restaurants. And there is always something interesting going on. There are several gems in Asheville worth mentioning: Of course the Biltmore House is a magnet for out of town guests, but there are lot's of other things to do including festivals of all kinds, fabulous art and craft galleries, historical sites, music and theater venues with national acts, antique malls and the downtown Friday night drum circle, not to mention the Smokey Mountain national Park.

Asheville also has a great healthcare system with Mission Hospital and other major medical practices.  Staying active has been easy in our neighborhood because we enjoy walking on Sunset Mountain just behind the house. We've found a 3.5 mile loop that offers spectacular views of the city and the Blue Ridge Mountains. Every season offers wonderful changes and in the 7 years we've lived here, we've never gotten tired of that walk. We go several times a week!

North Asheville is great because we have made a ton of friends here. We not only go to each others' homes, but also meet up at several of the restaurants within walking distance. We know most everyone on our street.  Our utility costs are reasonable partly because the summers are not as hot as some of the surrounding areas. But also because the heating, stove and fireplace are gas, those things have been especially cost effective.

  5. I walked through the Grovewood home last weekend at the Patton Property Open House. In my spare time, I like to see what others have done with their homes to get ideas for my own home and to learn more about available homes in choice areas of Asheville such as Grove Park.

The owners of this home have done some job in transforming what was likely a rather uninspired brick ranch into a delightful blend of comfort and sophistication. By 'comfort' I mean comfort in the 'Pinot-in-Adirondack-chair-by-firepit' sense, but also in the sense of the comfort that comes in moving through a home in which there is nothing to offend one's design instincts. The latter comfort is so uncommon as to be arresting when found.

Inside, 86 Grovewood's sound materials deliver on the promise of good design, while outside design is enhanced by a lush canopy that only mature trees can provide. And these pairings--of design and materials within and of design and nature without-- suggest comfort and sophistication in their most uncontrived and livable forms.

Often when I see a home in which the owner has invested time, passion and money I move first from bafflement (What were they thinking?) and then quickly to pity (They'll never recoup their investment.) Just as the anxiety builds for SWAT teams as they clear each room, so it builds for me when I've seen several well-executed rooms and assume the design atrocity I seek must be around the next corner.

But after moving deliberately through 86 Grovewood there was no offender to be found, no shower machine lifted from the Star Trek set, no amateur faux plaster or murals on the wall. Luckily for the next owner, in addition to time, passion and money, the present owner of 86 Grovewood clearly had the requisite taste to pull off something of great value.

As always, there are two or three things a new owner would want to do (the pergola in the rear of the home could use a good pressure-washing and some reconfiguring, for example) but the upgrades are truly brilliant here and the value seems excellent for the size, location and beauty of the home.
