What the SELLERS SAY

The things we love about Marshall NC is that the town is rich in history, scenery, outdoor activities and mountain culture. It is a true mountain town nestled in the beautiful mountains of western NC and the banks of the French Broad River. Downtown Marshall houses an authentic old-time General store and hardware stores, art galleries, and unique shops. Marshall is also becoming a center for artists.

We enjoy eating at home however, Marshall has many casual restaurants (see list at bottom) on both historic downtown Main street and on the highway 25/70 bypass which offer varied menus to choose from. Dining opportunities abound and range from burgers to Italian dishes to standard sandwiches. You can try out a southern favorite or health foods prepared in interesting ways to tempt the taste buds.

If you get bored with the local foods you can take a 20 minute drive into Asheville where restaurants are plenty. Our favorites are the Laughing Seed and Tupelo Honey.

Grocery stores are incredibly close by considering the privacy our house has to offer. We are within 5 minutes from a new Ingles and 15 minutes from  Walmart or Lowes.

When we bought the property we were particularly drawn to the fact that we had such  diversity in the land. We have pastures to raise horses, areas to garden, woods to explore, and the riverfront to enjoy. Down by the river  there used to be a hotel that was built in the 1800's where you can find the remains of an old stone fireplace and a brick lined well that provided their water needs.

Located in the heart of the Blue Ridge and Smoky mountains between Weaverville , NC and Hot Springs, NC Marshall is a thriving center of Appalachian traditions. Marshall NC is a place where traditional rural living meets a diverse cultural community. Marshall has become a hot spot for some of the best Western North Carolina artists and craftspeople, as well as as artists from around the country. Marshall is also home to many music events celebrating the musical traditions and history of NC. Mountain music lovers from throughout the region come to hear bluegrass, country, folk, rock and roll, and more.

As far as schools I can say that there are 5 K-12 schools in Marshall, NC including 5 public schools. There are 2 Marshall elementary schools, 1 Marshall middle school, 2 Marshall high Schools and 6 Marshall preschool schools.

We enjoy riding our ATV's on the property down to the river. My husband enjoys sitting on the front porch and shooting targets. In the mornings and late afternoon we enjoy what seems to be a parade of turkeys that circle the house. You can also enjoy watching the deer throughout the day.

There is something for everyone in close proximity to our property. The French Broad River offers everything you could want for a fun-filled day in the great outdoors including white water rafting.

You could also take a short ride to Hot Springs where not only can you go whitewater rafting but also tubing, mountain biking, horseback riding, fishing, or just soak in a 100+ degree mineral water from which the town Hot Springs received its name.

In the winter time you can also take a short drive to Wolf Ridge where there are great opportunities for ski and snowboard enthusiasts. Our neighborhood is as private as it can possibly be. We can grab a cup of coffee and sit on our screened porch and view the fog lifting off the French Broad River which runs along the edge of the property.  You can listen to the birds chirping and admire the mountain views.

Utility Costs
Our utility costs are minimal in spite of the fact that we like the Air conditioning cold because we have solar power that runs most of the home other than the A/C's. In an emergency loss of power from the grid we have batteries that store electricity and also a generator to charge the batteries if there is insufficient sun power available. Our average electric bill is about $70 a month. Our water is pumped from a 450' deep well that can also be powered by the solar array.
