The things I love about Weaverville are the friendliness of the people and the warm feeling of living in a small town that has its own brand of sophistication. It has grown since I have been here and will continue to grow, although I hope it doesn't get too big.
I love to eat at the following restaurants: In Weaverville: Blue Mountain Pizza, Well-Bred Bakery and Stoney Knob Cafe.
Of course, there are so many good restaurants in Asheville, which is only 15 minutes away, that it would be impossible to name them all. Grocery stores are plentiful - Ingles (2 of them) are minutes away, as well as Fresh Market, Greenlife and soon to be Harris Teeter and Trader Joe's.
When we purchased our property, we were mainly attracted by the wonderful mountain views. I love Asheville for it's unique assortment of people, the accessibility of theater, music and arts and many fine restaurants. The shopping is good and it is, generally, a pleasant town to hang out.
As I do not have school-age children, I cannot discuss the schools, except to say that from what I hear from friends, the schools are excellent. Mission Hospital in Asheville is very well regarded, and we have had very quick response both from the paramedics and the fire department.
Another advantage to the area is the Asheville Regional Airport which offers direct connections to Atlanta or Charlotte, thus making it easy to get any place while still being able to small, convenient, hometown airport.
At UNCA, the Reuters Center offers an amazing selection of courses geared to seniors. There is something for everyone who is interested.
My favorite hobby here is walking and hiking and there are many readily accessible trails and paths. This neighborhood is great for the country feeling, the beautiful views, wonderful people and its closeness to all the conveniences of Weaverville and Asheville.
My utility costs are comparable or less than the ones I paid while living in Florida. They are:
Electric - Progress Energy (includes heat or A/C) - $300/monthGas -
PSNC (stove, barbecue and hot water) - $15/month
Town of Weaverville - $30 monthTelephone and Internet -
Frontier - $85/monthTV - Dish Network - $90/month
