After a wonderful dinner at one of Black Mountain's many fine restaurants, regular visitors will schedule a "digestive" walk around Lake Tomahawk. Just a few blocks from town in our quaint city park, Lake Tomahawk offers a well lighted level path for safe strolling in the evening. Adjacent to the lake are open lighted tennis courts and a children's playground.

Lakeview Center 
 The Lakeview Center is a two-story building on beautiful Lake Tomahawk.  This community center hosts a variety of activities for both seniors and the general community.  The area around Lake Tomahawk includes a 1/2-mile walking path, plenty of fishing hot spots, a playground for the kids, tennis courts, and a recently renovated pool.  Both the upstairs & downstairs are available for rental and are a popular location for weddings, reunions, and parties.  To reserve, simply call 828-669-2052.  If you have questions about a program or would like to receive our monthly newsletter, please call  (828) 669-8610.

We offer a wide variety of activities, including Van Clans to different places of interest in WNC; weekly hiking trips; various types of games (canasta, mahjong, duplicate bridge); exercise options (Line dancing, square dancing, aerobics, yoga and chair exercise) and more!  Check out the calendar for all the details.

Ongoing activity descriptions 
Absolute Beginner Line Dancing: We dance to all types of music - Pop, Latin, Country, Oldies and more. You'll learn the basic step fundamentals and start line dancing right away! No dance experience needed.....No partner required...Just bring your love of dance and come join the fun! Wednesdays , 10:15-11:15am $5.00/class 

Aerobic Exercise Class: The Lakeview Center offers two aerobic classes of different intensity that incorporate light weights and stretching for a great overall workout! Monday, Wednesday and Friday 8:00am hi-impact class, 9:00am low-impact. 

Free Autobiography Group: Meet with others to discuss your life stories. First & Third Fridays of every month @ 10:30am 

Free Beginning Birding: Jim Poling will be your guide as you identify and learn about the different birds in our area. Free. Third Saturday of each month @ 8:00am. Beginning Bridge: Taught by Peter Schoen, a Silver Life Master bridge player. 1st and 3rd Mondays @ 6:30pm. Free Canasta: Canasta is a fun card game that is a wonderful way to socialize with friends and meet to people. New players are always welcomed. Wednesdays, 1:00pm Free Chair Exercise Class: This is a light aerobics and stretching exercise class that is great for folks who need a non-impact option for an exercise class. Tuesdays, 11:00am-11:30am Free Chair Yoga: Chair-based yoga class, that includes breathing techniques, range of motion exercises to increase flexibility, exercises to improve balance, and relaxation. Fridays, 10:30-11:00am Free Duplicate Bridge: Bridge helps keep the mind sharp, allows you to meet new people and have fun! If you have not played in years or want to learn stop by, we welcome new players. Partner needed. Tuesdays , 6:30pm $1 per player Gentle Yoga for Everybody: A slower and gentler style of yoga that is particularly wellsuited for all fitness levels. Days & Times: Mondays 4:30-5:30pm and Thursdays, 9:00- 10:00am. $8.00/class Knitting: Knitters come together each week to share patterns, stories, laughter and fun! All knitters are encouraged to join. Tuesdays, Time: 1:00pm (at 2:00pm on the second Tuesday of each month only) . Cost: Free Laughter for Wellness: Wear comfortable clothing, bring a friend and come ready to laugh out loud! Second Wednesday @ 11:30. Free. Linus Quilters Club: The Linus Quilters Club is a group of volunteers that meet each month to create quilts for children in need. Every level of quilter is welcome to join; fabric is available to create your quilt to donate. Fourth Friday of every month. 1:00 - 3:00pm. Free Mahjongg: An ancient game that keeps the mind sharp. Free Days & Times: 2nd & 4th Monday at 12:45 p.m. - Experienced players only please. Mondays at 1:00 p.m. - New players welcome but must be experienced. 1st and 3rd Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. - Experienced players only please. Thursdays at 1:00 p.m. - Beginners welcome Monthly Movies : Last Thursday of every month (January – May) from 5:30-7:30pm Be sure to bring a comfortable chair and anything you’d like to eat or drink during the movie. Free but donations are accepted. Square Dancing: This is a square-dancing group that is designed for all levels. Please come and meet new people, get some light exercise for your body and brain and have fun! Tuesdays, 1:00-3:30pm. $2.00 donation Spanish Conversation Table: This is an opportunity to practice your Spanish conversation skills. Bring your lunch or, if you’re 60+, you can make a reservation with the lunch site for $1.50. Wildflower Walks: Learn to identify the different wildflowers in our area. First Thursday of each month.   1. Love the lake - it comes alive every morning and evening with great trails. Homes here are generally a good investment. It's an area easy to drive out in a few minutes to I40
