"Seller Says"
Leicester is convenient to Asheville, but does not have the city taxes - just the county taxes - which adds to the affordability.  It is a small town but still provides schooling for K-12, a fire station with EMS, its own post office and county library.  A town community center is a great place to walk the track and for community gatherings.  Each Wednesday, a luncheon is prepared by volunteers from churches for area residents who can leave a donation or not.  A close knit group of people live here and can be seen frequently at the hardware store or the diners.  We use a local auto repair shop for our vehicles and they are great, reasonable and fair.

There are the usual chain restaurants as well as a small and intimate local restaurant in Leicester run by a husband and wife team called Stone House Market.  Located in a former gas station building, its menu is posted on a blackboard outside.  It offers a limited menu but it is all one needs.  The trip down to Patton Avenue turning east or west provides more restaurants and shopping.  The ultimate is the Biltmore Estate, America's largest house, and its acclaim with restaurants, winery and Antler Hill Village.  The other ultimate is the Grove Park Inn, with all its offerings including a spa.

Despite the quiet community, we are only eight minutes from major grocery stores, pharmacies, banks and the usual fast fooderies, without going into the city proper.  However, if we want the city we can be in its heart in 25 minutes - and not the 25 minutes type of driving experienced within the city limits.  A Mission Hospital family care facility has just opened and there is a Sisters of Mercy Urgent Care facility just a straight nine miles away, which we have used by the way.  We are only 1.5 miles from the fire station, which has a super EMS service.  The post office is just three miles and a Buncombe County Library branch is about two miles, which we use constantly.

We fled from the Sandhills and to escape it's humidity, sand and pine straw for the more comfortable climate here in WNC and have not been disappointed.   Another prime draw was the Mission Hospital system, with its wonderful reputation.

The Asheville area provides so much to do and to see, no matter what your interests may be.  The city has culture, art, sports, shopping and dining to make anyone happy.  The Asheville Airport is a manageable airport and you will not get lost trying to find your flights or your car.  The Asheville Visitors Center provides a tour by shuttle train which is so worthwhile and provides some history and familiarizes one with the area without having to drive around trying to see things at the same time.  There is a casino in Cherokee further west, as well as white water canoeing and kayaking, etc.  The mountians offer hiking, camping and "leaf peeping".

Our specific community has underground utilities.  Sewer and water are provided as part of the monthly fee.  We have not used the school system as we are retired and not had any "kids" or "grandkids" in the schools here.  However, the medical community is absolutely wonderful with every service one can want or need.

Weather watchers rejoice as from our home we can see the mountains of Tennessee to one side which will have snow on the peaks when we don't have any snow.  To the other side we can see Mount Pisgah and when it is clear we call it a Pisgah morning.  It is so exhilariting here to walk the neighborhood and have views all around.  There is a breeze when it is hot in summer to keep us cool and no mosquitos when we sit out or grill on the open deck.  The three-season porch features blinds to close for a bit of privacy, or open them wide for maximum outside views.

We enjoy going right across the road to the club house in the morning for pool exercises or a hot tub followed by an outside shower.  Or if we feel so inclined we can go inside to use the exercise equipment to workout.  There is a walking trail which goes down by the pond and benches to just sit a bit.  The community offers raised garden plots to grow vegetables, herbs or sunflowers.  You can pick veggies at the peak for salad for dinner.

What sold us on this community were the amenities and the affordability.  It does give the opportunity to live here for part of the year and leave for parts unknown knowing things will be cared for and protected by the gated community aspect of Rose Hill.  The club house can be used for weddings, reunions, birthdays, graduations, etc.  Folks can gather there to sit by the fire and read or watch sports on the huge TV.  In good weather, the pool is so inviting and both the club house and the pool/hot tub areas are locked and only accessible by a fob issued to residents.

The water and sewer are included in the HOA fees and we find that Charter offers the best internet connection. We do use Direct TV and the cost varies dependent on the package chosen.  Our phone is cell only but there is Verizon and AT&T.  Packages with either the cable or internet service can be added.  The electric is provided by Progress Energy and our plan is $128 per month.  The fireplace is wood burning, but if converted to gas it would use a propane tank.

  7. A maintenance free newer charming bungalow in a gated community within a short driving distance from Asheville with a view at this price is hard to beat. Someone will smile sitting on the screened in porch about how much they adore their home and the taxes they are saving.
