The thing I love about Burnsville is its location! We love hiking, cycling, and riding our motorcycle to nearby waterfalls. Burnsville is a quaint historic little town, with an active farmer's market and an old theatre. Several art shops, coffee shops and galleries surround the town square. The ski resorts in Boone are about 1 scenic hour drive  north. Wolf Laurel ski resort is literally just around the mountain!  Asheville is just 45 minutes to the south.

We love to eat at the Hilltop Restaurant in downtown Burnsville. There is also a great restaurant with a view for miles at the Wolf Laurel Ski Resort. Blue Mountain Pizza and Jack of Hearts in Weaverville, are our favorite pizza and live music stops. For gourmet cuisine, we love to stop at the Stoney Knob Cafe in Weaverville.

Groceries can be found in downtown Burnsville at Ingles; everything from wine and beer to a full deli and even local produce!

When we bought the property we were drawn to the size of the creek, the hug of the mountain ridge behind the house, and the easy access to the property. There are no eyesores nearby, and the flowing creek can be heard in every room of the house. We love the fact that we have no houses encroaching on us. With over 7+ acres from creek to ridge line, the home has a wonderful private treehouse feeling to it. The lower level of the home has a drive in garage. We have used the bottom of the house for an art studio, and we have had the home wired for larger equipment. There is a canning kitchen downstairs, and an extra bedroom we built for company. The upper floor can be reached by stairs or elevator and has 2 more bedrooms and 2 baths.

A separate "Bunkhouse/Studio" has been updated with a 1/2 bath, a hickory/stainless/granite kitchenette, and bedroom.

The Burnsville area is a great starting spot for many adventures! Whitewater rafting on the Nollichucky, looking for aquamarines at the Ray Mine in Spruce Pine, hiking around Hot Springs. In Winter we day trip to Boone for skiing, or stay close to home at the Wolf!

It is truly wonderful  to sit on the porch, smelling the forest and listening to the creek while the lightning bugs come out. The seasons are quite spectacular with lots of color in the fall. During the summer, we have a small grouping of pink blossomed mimosa trees, that are covered in black and blue swallowtail butterflies migrating through. The hummingbirds empty our feeders every fall on their way south. Mama and baby deer have grazed through our front yard.We have watched flocks of turkeys march along the snowy trails! Wild life watching is great from the porch with a cup of coffee!

I really enjoy fishing the little drops in the creek in our front yardAt sunset, I can grab a beer and wade into the bend of the creek easing my line downstream when - "BAM" - trout attack! We have caught rainbows bigger than 10 inches as well as the little native brown and brook trout. These little native trout get thrown back into the creek.

Our home location is great for FISHING! We are located just 1/2 mile from the confluence of the Cane River and Bald Mountain Creek. Fishing is FANTASTIC. The state stocks trout for the creek at our mailbox! Rather than facing the uncertainties of the big river, we always seem to have lots of trout on site! Our mountain behind the house boasts several boulder caves. We have panned gold flecks from the little brook off the mountain behind the home. A small grocery store is located at the River with everything from milk to bait!

Utilities are lower than I expected. We are part of the French Broad electrical co-op.  Averaged out, we probably use $85-$100 month as there is no need for A/C. Fuel oil for heating in the winter is reasonable. The heated floors in the bathroom help, too!
