Things I love about Weaverville/Barnardsville are the friendly people, the proximity to Asheville with the solitude of being in the mountains, the weather and the proximity to recreational areas.

We love to eat at D&D restaurant...which sounds crazy, as it is just a gas station restaurant at the end of Sugar Creek Road that serves only breakfast and lunch, but I truly haven't found a better hamburger. For dinner, we love to eat at Blue Mountain Pizza and Soba...both just 10 to 15 minutes away in Downtown Weaverville. Many weekends you will find us at Sunny Point or Early Girl (Asheville) for breakfast...can't be beat!!
Groceries stores are easily accessible with a very nice Ingles in Weaverville and a Wal Mart Superstore at the same exit (along with a Lowes)...for a quick milk or bread need, D&D has a little grocery store right at the end of the road.

When we bought the property we were drawn to so many things: the property has a huge front deck which is partially covered which is perfect for entertaining and a private deck off of the master bedroom. The house has a split bedroom plan and the master is very private. Even though it is gravel, the driveway is very gentle, which is rare for homes in the mountains (very easy in snow and ice...no need for 4 wheel drive here), and even though it is gravel it is very well packed...my husband doesn't have any problems on it with his motorcycle.
The yard is wonderful with level areas for gardening and a nice front yard area that is grassy that is perfect for the pets/kids with wooded areas around the perimeter to shield from neighbors. Also, we were drawn to the fact that even though the rear of the lot abuts a residential subdivision, there is a ridge separating the two and you would never even know there was a subdivision back there. Also, the neighbor to the front of the house is a large acreage horse farm that is meticulously maintained. It is wonderful to look out the windows and see the horses in the pasture.
The Asheville area is wonderful due to the outdoor recreational activities, the weather, the friendly people and the many diverse eateries and pubs.

Another thing we would like to share is a little bit about our neighbors in which we share a well and driveway. We have lived in the house for just shy of 6 years. The same family has lived in the house next door since this time. They are wonderful people and have been excellent neighbors. The only problem with them is that we can't keep up with their lawn mowing schedule!! Just a few examples: they had acquired a stray dog for a while. She was certainly not a nuisance to us; however, we have a small child and they did not like the way the dog responded to our child. Without us saying a word, they found a new home for the dog. They stated that they just could not live with themselves if anything happened to our daughter. We weren't terribly worried about it; however, they were. They are not nosy neighbors, generally keep to themselves, but are always up for a chat at the mailbox or the garden. They have been very generous with gifts of morels and other vegetables and are always willing to lend a hand if we have been in a bind, i.e. babysitting, letting the dog out if need be, they even mowed the lawn several times for us after our daughter was born. Great people that we will miss dearly!!

Away from home, we love loading up the kayaks or the raft to head out for the day on the French Broad or the Nolichucky or putting on our hiking boots and hitting the trails. At home, we love hanging out and entertaining on the front porch - whether it is just reading a book, lighting up the chiminea on a chilly evening or having friends and/or family over to grill out, the porch is definitely a place that feels like home!
Of course we all like different things, we enjoy taking advantage of the many outdoor recreational activities in the local area, whitewater kayaking and rafting, canoeing down easier sections of river, hiking, and fishing. All of these are located within a quick drive from the house. We also really enjoy the free festivals downtown and the concerts around town at numerous venues.

  1. Many buyers come to the mountains looking for that dream property: flat lot (1.74 acres), room to garden, privacy, open floor plan, natural light, decks(2!) to enjoy the weather, trees, small mountain creeks, and long range views. This home has all of that. On top of the nature, it's completely re-done inside and out. Hardwood floors, Corian counter tops (used in Million dollar homes), and new stainless steal appliances. As a realtor, I have strong opinions of how a home should be staged, painted, and renovated. With this home, I have no further suggestions. This is one of those unique gems that comes a long only once in a while. Come see this home for your own special retreat located less then 10 minutes from all major amenities. On top of it all, this home has been appraised, pre-inspected, AND has a home warranty that will cover the buyer for one year after their purchase.

  10. I really love this house. Weaverville is an ideal location close enough to Asheville and still in the country, but with it's own little downtown and some really great restaurants. Great place for a gardener.
