"Seller Says"

The thing I love about Fairview is that it is close but not too close. Fairview is far enough from Asheville that it feels like a small town, even a rural feel where this house is, but it is close enough to the city to be able to get to restaurants, shops and entertainment in less than 30 minutes.

We moved to this area because of the excellent school system. Our kids have loved attending Fairview Elementary and Cane Creek Middle school and are looking forward to the athletics and academics at A.C. Reynolds High School.

We think two of the best restaurants in the area are located right here in Fairview, The Local Joint and Piazza. We love to eat at the Local Joint restaurant which was recently voted one of the best undiscovered restaurants in the Asheville area. The Local Joint has a variety of artisan dishes that are made with meats and produce from local farms. They serve beers from local micro-breweries as well as a variety of wines from area wineries. They even serve breakfast dishes with the same artistic flair until 3pm. Piazza (whose owner also has Rezaz in Biltmore Village) has the best pizza we have ever eaten. The wood fired oven bakes the pies to perfection. They have a variety of other Italian dishes and a wonderful Greek Salad served family style. In addition to their homemade desserts, they also have the best ice cream from our favorite local ice cream shop, Hilltop Ice Cream. It has enough ambiance to be perfect for a date night and the food makes it the favorite choice for the whole family.

The closest grocery store is Food Lion which has the usual groceries and supplies. They have recently expanded their organic section to include many popular brands. Trout Lilly is a locally owned natural food store that carries many items not found in chain stores. Ingle’s grocery store is also nearby and is located near A.C. Reynolds High school, Piazza, Subway, Sonic, a Car Wash, and Swannanoa Cleaners. We also have a couple of local gas stations and convenience stores that we frequent. KD’s One Stop is a locally owned BP Gas station and convenience store that is most popular place for breakfast with the local workmen.

We were drawn to this house because it’s what I like to call “Privacy with Proximity”. We are the first driveway on the east side of Owenby Cove Road which is about 4/10ths of a mile from Garren Creek, and you can’t see the house from the road. Once you have turned into the driveway, the driveway curves through the wooded banks of our stream as it enters the clearing of our front yard, then the land slopes upward to reveal this brick house with the porch and tall front white columns. It was breath taking to see with the many hand-stacked rock walls and gardens around the house, framed by 40 acres of land that form a ridge around ¾ of property. Once we stepped onto the porch and turned around, we were taken by the beautiful mountain views where you can see over the trees and the fog settles on the mountain across the way. Inside the house, we saw the perfect space for an open floor plan, lots of light and a cozy family room.
When we ventured out back, we walked onto the deck that runs the full length of the house, perfect for outdoor entertaining, grilling, or the perfect place to watch the myriad of stars that are visible when you live in a place like this.

We love Western North Carolina because we’ve lived up north, and in Florida and Western North Carolina has the friendliest people we’ve ever met. The climate here is moderate. We get to enjoy all four seasons. When we do get snow, if it is not gone in the afternoon, it is usually gone in a day or two. Days are warm in the summer time but the nights are cool, good for sleeping. The best local attractions are not man made. There are mountains to climb, trails to hike or bike, rivers to fish, raft or kayak. In town, there are lots of wonderful restaurants to suit almost any style you may like. The music scene is incredible with several venues for well-known and up and coming acts. We think it is a beautiful place to live.
I want to be sure to mention the barn. It’s a 2 story barn that measures 25ft x 30ft. The bottom half is block with a dirt floor, and the top half is wood. There is a line running to it from the utility pole and it may have had power at one time. There is a large area of level ground in front of the barn and one of the 2 streams runs behind the barn.

We love to explore the many local restaurants and on weekends, take to kids to the area parks to walk or ride bikes. We also enjoy hiking on the many trails in Western North Carolina. Johns Rock and Max Patch are two of our favorites, because they have incredible views.

Our neighborhood is great for peace and quiet. Our daughter says she loves Fairview because she feels safe here. This neighborhood is pet friendly and sometimes we can catch a glimpse of a rabbit scampering across the driveway, or even the occasional deer at the stream.
