We love that Mills River has maintained their agricultural roots and strong “sense” of community while growing to meet the needs and desires of the residents. Mills River has recently celebrated their 10th anniversary is considered an up and coming city!If you live in Mills River you have convenient access to all major restaurant chains but we enjoy local favorites like Mills River Restaurant and Hawg Wild Bar-B-Que in Brevard! Food City and the new Ingles are located within a minute of the home. You will find most major retail chains such as Target, Home Depot, Best Buy, Old Navy, and Wal-Mart, etc within 6 miles.
When we found our home, we were initially drawn to the huge – tree filled lot and the available square-footage of the house. The large windows throughout the house provide a bright and open space. The large basement has two heat sources and has provided the space and natural light for many of our projects such as stained glass, wood-working, etc. The home is positioned perfectly between the eclectic culture of Asheville, the “home-town USA” of Hendersonville, and Brevard “The Land of Waterfalls” and the white squirrel.
A few other things that are worth mentioning - the area is centrally located with easy access to Atlanta, GA and Greeneville, SC. The Asheville Airport is only 5 miles from home. There are several nationally recognized college/universities in the area such as Brevard College, UNC – Asheville, and Blue Ridge Community College.
Even if you are not the “outdoorsy” type – the beauty of the area is breathtaking. The home is located within minutes to the Pisgah National Forest, Blue Ridge Parkway, and DuPont Forest.
Living in Mills River we have been able to pursue interests in Photography (especially waterfalls), hiking, fly-fishing, and camping while continuing to enjoy the “arts” such as ballet, the symphony, and plays! The area offers many opportunities to enjoy the craftsmanship of area artists but also provides instruction/classes for the crafts/skills you want to obtain! Our neighborhood is small and located on a private road which minimizes unnecessary traffic. Neighbors are friendly, kind, and quick to offer a helping hand.
