"Seller Says"

We love Mills River because it is a small community that is still close to many larger conveniences.  We are only 10 minutes from downtown Hendersonville and 20 minutes from Brevard and Asheville. We have a new park that just opened last year with a playground, large open fields, tennis courts, picnic pavilions, the library and a dog park. The schools are fantastic and our church home is phenomenal. In the summer, all the local farmers and bakers come out on Saturday mornings for the farmers market.  It is so nice to see familiar faces all over town and know that we are all supportive of each other.

We love to eat at our local restaurants, just minutes from our house. Mills River Restaurant is fantastic for home cooking breakfast, lunch and dinner. Nancy Lynn's has the best burgers in town.  Exit 40 is about 6 miles up the road with a big variety of restaurants including Chili's, Olive Garden, Ruby Tuesdays, Carabas, Cracker Barrel, IHOP, and many others.

We have two grocery stores in Mills River. Food Lion is smaller and has been here for years, but is nice, easy to get around and great for quick shopping trips.  We were lucky to have a brand new Ingles open just up the street. It is a huge store with a pharmacy, wine bar, eat-in deli, gas and has every food item you could possibly desire.

When we first bought the property, we were really drawn to the maturity of the neighborhood.  The landscape is beautiful and all of the homes are so well maintained.  Nothing cookie cutter about this neighborhood.  You really feel like you are way out in the country, yet, you really are so close to many conveniences.  The house itself was built to suit us.  We love entertaining and have an open floor plan with 2 doors to access back porch.

We also have a lower level back porch surrounded by rhododendron for privacy.

The home feels very woodsy. We are surrounded by trees and have lots of windows, so that, in combination with the wood ceilings and floors and rock fireplace, make you feel like you are at a retreat. Sipping coffee on the back porch is a great way to start the day! Our lower level bonus room makes a great multipurpose room for play, work or leisure.  It could also be made into a lower level apartment, complete with full bathroom, with separate access directly from basement and no steps to enter. We have lots of storage space and a huge workshop which is unfinished, so there is plenty of room to grow if desired.

The thing we love most about living in this area is that we are right next door to Pisgah National Forest, Mills River Recreation area, Bent Creek recreation area and Dupont State Forest.  There are endless hiking and biking trails and great paddling on the French Broad and Davidson Rivers.

It is beautiful year round and as people who enjoy being outside, this is very important to us. If you have children, there are great places to take them for both recreational and educational purposes. Our favorite places are the Carl Sandburg Home to see the goats and have picnics. The baby goats are born each spring and so much fun to see. We also love Hands On Gallery in Hendersonville, Mountain Play Lodge in Arden and The Health Adventure in Asheville. All 3 provide great places to play on rainy days.  Parks are in abundance as well, including Mills River Park and Etowah Park which are just a couple miles from our home.  Just further out are numerous other playgrounds and parks in Brevard, Hendersonville, Flat Rock and Fletcher which provide great places for the kiddos to run and play. We also love Flat Rock Playhouse which hosts numerous award wining shows throughout the year. The Asheville airport is 6 miles from our home. It is the easiest way to fly with close parking and easy access to the terminals.

Our main hobbies include outdoor sports such as biking and hiking in Bent Creek, Dupont or Pisgah Forest. We love canoeing and kayaking. The Davidson and French Broad provide great places for this locally as well as the Nantahala Recreation Area and Fontana Dam which is only 1.5 hours west of us.  Our primary love is taking our camper out with the kids. We love staying at Davidson River Campground and Cascade Lake Campground, both less than 10 miles from home. We also love date nights in Asheville or Hendersonville. Both have large movie theaters and great local restaurants with an eclectic mix of dining options. Downtown Asheville is filled with galleries, local shopping, nightlife options and great events at the Civic Center and The Orange Peel.

Brevard and Hendersonville provide cute downtown areas with shopping and street fairs.

Our neighborhood is a beautifully established residential area with large trees, private lots and great views.  We do have a Homeowners Association to maintain our streets for paving as needed and winter snowplows.

The cost is $100.00 per quarter. We have 2 annual garage sales and a neighborhood picnic in the spring. All of our neighbors are very friendly, are a variety of ages and very family oriented. 306 Shadecrest Lane

  1. Room to grow in basement is always a great thing to have. Check out the stonework on the outside of this home as well as the fireplace. Mills River is an ideal location - close to Hendersonville NC and Asheville NC, and minutes from all the amenities of South Asheville

  2. As you approach this wonderful home, the neighborhood is so lovely with trees everywhere and nice homes close yet so peaceful and quiet. The living area is open and the lower level would make a great guest suite (it has a bath) or teenager's room.
All the men love a work shop and this house has one that has easy access from the front of the property. It's a beautiful lot! Gwen

  4. 306 Shadecrest is an aptly-named property as it is on the crest of a shaded, but not dark or northern-sloping, street.

Mills River is an ideal location and, in addition to the home's great features (see vid & pics) such as the stone fireplace and large porch, the general area is perfect in that the approach takes one through a beautiful agricultural valley before arriving at a right-sized neighborhood of well-maintained homes.

When I was last there, on my drive to the property, I saw the fog just breaking over a giant field of peppers with the mountains as the backdrop. Camera battery:dead.

Refined living in a neighborhood surrounded by a prosperous agricultural valley both within 10 minutes of all modern conveniences is becoming harder and harder to find, even in the WNC mountains!

  6. What an incredible FIREPLACE which a focal point for the wonderful great room. I love the privacy and charm of the trees which makes summer that much more perfect. The stone accents on the outside of the home are great along with the necessary "man cave."

  9. The living area had a cozy comfort with the fireplace and vaulted wood ceilings, yet the openness brought a contrasting expansion. It was welcoming and flowing adjacently to the kitchen stirred thoughts of family congregation and chatter. The basement allowed for another quiter living space with a huge workspace and storage.
