"Seller Says"

Gorgeous granite
The things I love about Asheville include the fact that you are so close to the mountains - surrounded by them, actually.

There is a vibrant artsy community here, which means it's funky enough to be interesting, and not a stuffy formal town.  If you're visiting, pick up a free Mountain Express weekly tabloid newspaper.  It will list all of the special happenings for the week.

Granite fireplace
We enjoy coffee and treats at Edna's Asheville on Merrimon. They have live music some evenings and roast their own coffee.  They're very dog friendly, especially if you have a pug.  Weekend breakfast is at Cornerstone on Tunnel Road.  It's a restaurant your grandmother would have taken you to.  I loved my grandmother.  She took me out to eat often, and so I love to eat food at places that remind me of her.

A great date night is at Bouchon during the week when they have all-you-can-eat mussels and frites (French for French fries).  A cheap date night is Asheville Pizza and Brewing Co on Merrimon.  Movies are only $3 and they have great pizza. Noi Thai Kitchen on Merrimon is great - the owner will remind you of Fonzie on Happy Days.

Your own guest cottage
I do most of my grocery shopping at either of the nearby Ingles grocery stores (Merrimon or Tunnel Rd).   They're both about 4 or 5 minutes away.  Ingles is a locally owned chain.  We get our Newmans Organic Dog Food at the Ingles on Tunnel Rd, they don't carry it at all of the Ingles for some reason.  They're building a Harris Teeter and a Trader Joes right across the street from each-other on Merrimon down from our dry cleaner's (Asheville Cleaners).  We highly recommend Charlotte Street Animal Hospital, the veterinarians there are top notch and treat our two dogs with lots of love and affection.  Lucy has to kiss everyone there when she goes in, and they all line up for her kisses.

Check out the ceiling
When we bought the home originally, we knew we wanted to live in the Grove Park neighborhood.  It truly is one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Asheville.  This home has a lot of historic charm.      The Asheville area is wonderful because it is go green.  Both literally and figuratively.  You're in the mountains, and there are a lot of socially conscious people living here.  They care about our community.

There are several churches and a Jewish congregation within a few blocks of the home.  Even if you're not Catholic, you'll want to visit St. Lawrence Basilica to see the unique vaulted ceilings.

Shining, dining experience
We enjoy hiking and picnicking along the Blue Ridge Parkway.  One favorite area to day hike is Graveyard Fields, where there are two waterfalls and wild blueberries for the picking in late July/early August.  We travel a lot and are grateful that the Asheville Regional Airport is only 20 miles from the house.  You can get anywhere from here.  But there's plenty to do here too.  On any given Friday night in the Summer, go downtown and enjoy the Drum Circle at Pritchard park.  You'll see children, teens, adults, suits, granolas, and hippies all dancing and enjoying the beat of dozens of local drummers.  It's an experience that will make you feel a better person for having participated, almost spiritual, primal.

Fresco dining at guest home
Our neighborhood is very walkable - great for walking dogs or children or just getting out and enjoying everyone's gardens.  The park (Grove Park) is two blocks away on Charlotte Street.  Our neighborhood has a Spring and Fall get together there every year, and a community yard sale a block further at the park on Sunset Parkway at Charlotte Street.  Weaver Park is three blocks in the other direction,  where children have their softball games and birthday party picnics, and people of all ages play tennis.  There are several coffee shops and restaurants within a 6 block walking distance.  Of course, the Grove Park Inn is here too.  Your Christmas guests will want to see the Gingerbread House contest held annually at the Grove Park Inn.  Perhaps you've seen it on the Food Network?  It is truly amazing.  On the 4th of July go out on the Terrace at the Grove Park Inn and watch the fireworks over downtown.

You can actually see them from the road in front of the house too, there are only 2 houses between this one and the Grove Park Inn.

  4. My favorite part in this home is the master on main - the windows with plantation shutters create this magical relaxing atmosphere. I also love the future potential of the basement, I've never seen such an amazing space. This one will go fast!

  5. After buying the home, one of the first things we did was to put in a beautiful crystal chandelier in the dining room. Don't you think it makes the dining room bright and cheery?

  6. Darling - I LOVE that chandelier. I put one in my tiny Miami condo - it was almost as big as the table :-). Your home is so lovely, I am not surprised to see so many showings booked

  8. This house has so much character! I love the granite fireplace, the large windows and the "multi-level" feel to the open space in the living area.
There were people leaving when I arrived today and another agent coming just as I was ready to lock the door, so I do believe this home will be sold in the next few days! Gwen

  10. Superior floor plan design for what you see these days. Great feel to the open living area with levels of living. Nice option for the master on main and still room to expand in the dry basement. Even more including a guest apartment for extra income or you own expansion. Very surprising property and this will fly off the market. Guys we need to get busy finding you a new place because your about to sell this one!

  11. I love love love this house. The floorplan is awesome and really open/modern for a house of this period. The basement could be finished to be an amazing art studio or another rental. GREAT location near the Grove Park. This is priced to sell!

  12. There is a unique drive-up to the back door of this house: a circular gravel driveway that allows you to come right up to the back door!

  13. Of the 12 homes on this street, this is one of only four which has a garage. Most people didn't have autos at all when this house was built, and this one has a 2 car garage!

  14. How funny to think that a new buyer can have the honor of living in a home that was built at the time when there were horses and carriages and not autos!!
